This is the page where I'll describe myself in more detail.

So they suggest I tell my age........
I'm U.S. Returned Peace Corps Volunteer in Grenada, West Indies, 2001-2003
I taught Health and Family Life Education (sex ed) at GBSS (boys) and Westmoreland (co-ed) in Grenada.
It is challenging but when a student tells me "Miss, i'm afraid to die of AIDS" or "I appreciate you coming all the way here to teach us HFLE," it is all worth it. Definitely the "toughest job you'll ever love."
Other things important to me: music, my family, my friends, the beach, God, and Andy
I am currently working on my dual MSW/MPH degree at the University of South Carolina-Columbia and plan to graduate May 2006
After completion of my dual MSW/MPH degree, I plan to be a School Social Worker/ Health Educator with adolescents in an unknown state
I might also include some information about my personal history: where I grew up, where I went to school, various places I've lived. If I have one, I'll include a picture of myself engaging in an activity I enjoy, such as a sport or hobby.
I grew up in Tennessee. I was born in Virginia. I've lived in Virginia, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Missisippi (Yuck!!!), Tennessee, and South Carolina. Some of my favorite places I've visited include New York (Harlem), New Jersey, South Carolina, Barbados, and Florida. I enjoy soccer, swimming, art, pottery, architecture, most music (except country), working with youth, community service, and good theater.

What a job!
I might describe my job in a little more detail here. I'll write about what I do, what I like best about it, and even some of the frustrations. (A job with frustrations? Hard to believe, huh?)
In Peace Corps, I taught all areas of Health and Family Life. I covered anything from Reproduction to Self-esteem to Conflict Resolution. My primary focus was the prevention of adolescent pregnancy/ STDs/ HIV/AIDS.
What I liked most about my job is interacting with youth and seeing them start to really believe in themselves. I liked my "kids" who do contribute positive things to the world, like Red Cross members or ones who are just happy to see me.
I am most frustrated when, despite all the education we have, people still do not want to admit the reality of the threat of HIV/AIDS/STDs in their lives. I am angry when my youth think 'it can't happen to me.' Even after I read one class a story of a woman who had HIV/AIDS and what she went through, they still thought she deserved it and very few showed compassion to her.
Currently, I work at the CDC Institute for HIV Prevention Leadership at the Arnold School of Public Health at the University of South Carolina. I do most things that graduate assistants do but I gain a lot of experience and contacts within the HIV/AIDS Prevention/Education field.
